We Rated 100 Hotel Stays. Our Favourites Weren’t Always Worth Repeating.
We rated 100 of our hotel stays. Then I asked one blunt question of each: knowing what I know now, would I pay that price again? For half of them, I wouldn’t.We expected the star ratings to be the problem. Booking.com called 54 of our hotels Superb or Exceptional, yet I’d only pay the same again for 31. But the bigger surprise was in our own scores. Some of our very best stays, the ones we still talk about over dinner, were good value by our own benchmark and still failed the test.That’s when it clicked. “Was it worth it?” is really three questions. Was it good? Was it good for the price? And would I buy it again? The answers don’t have to match. Some stays are worth it exactly once.So we rebuilt TripWorthIt™ to keep those questions apart. You score the hotel, tell it the job it had to do (a base for exploring, or the destination itself) and see how it compares with its price. The last question, whether you’d pay again, stays yours.
