We gave Siquijor two nights in February 2025, between Bohol and Coron, and spent most of them at Coco Grove. As my diary put it on the day we arrived: too bad we’re having to take one for the team and stay here for a couple of days.
Our verdict: yes. For about £155 a night for a suite with breakfast, Coco Grove scored 3.81 out of 5 on TripWorthIt™. That’s Great, and it was the best stay of our Philippines trip. One dish aside.
What is Coco Grove like?
Coco Grove didn’t disappoint. We’d booked one of the higher room categories, a Temple Lotus suite. It had its own private path down to the Temple Lagoon pool. The pool was almost private too: it sits at the far end of the resort from reception, and nobody else used it.
Our terrace looked all the way down the beach and caught beautiful sunsets.

One afternoon, after a walk along Tubod Beach, we were so hot that we swam in the sea below our villa. Unusually for me, I didn’t have my action camera with me. Big mistake. As we swam along the buoys that mark the Tubod Marine Sanctuary, we saw a turtle. Then something darted beneath me: a sea krait, the venomous sea snake the locals call walo-walo. I was instantly fuming that I couldn’t film it, and terrified.
In the evening we walked the grounds, and it was very calming. The beach was lit up along the palms, and the pool glowed under the trees.

The Temple Lagoon pool, by the spa and a few steps from our room, became our favourite spot.
On our second night, a Monday, the resort held its BBQ dinner by the beach. Staff joined the resort’s own tribal band, Tribu Bukong, and with fire dancers, drums and singing it was a great show. It runs every Monday and Thursday from 7pm to 10pm; book a table at the beach bar or the front desk.
Is the food any good?
Breakfast was lovely. Dinner had one miss: I can’t recommend the chicken adobo, which was the scrag end of a chicken in a fatty gravy. The pickled carrot on the side was nice. But the grilled prawns at the BBQ were excellent.

Where did it score, and where didn’t it?
Rest & Recharge was its strongest pillar, at 4.05. We slept well, the place is calm, and it has everything you’d want from a destination resort. Location & Access was fine, at 3.25. We hadn’t arranged a transfer, so we agreed a price with a tuk-tuk driver on the dock for about ₱600 (around £8). It was a bumpy 35-minute ride from Larena port.
On value it did better than its price. At about £155 a night, our benchmark expects a quality score of about 3.3. Coco Grove delivered 3.73.
We were already scoring it that evening, on our phones, using the first version of the TripWorthIt scorer. Coco Grove came out at 71% against 49% for Amorita, where we’d just come from. Two rescores later, on today’s version, it’s 76% against 51%. The method has changed since, but the verdict hasn’t.

Beyond the resort
There’s far more to Siquijor than we saw, and if we went back we’d stay at least three nights. The headline sights are Cambugahay Falls and Lugnason Falls, both with rope swings and swimming holes. Take care in the rainy season, when they look spectacular but can be dangerous. Our original plan included both, plus Paliton Beach further along the coast, and others recommended a day trip to Apo Island for its turtles.
In the end, the Tubod Marine Sanctuary on our doorstep was enough. The resort was so chilled, and the staff so sweet, that we didn’t want to leave.
Can you fly a drone at Coco Grove?
Not inside the resort, which is annoying. I did manage one quick shot from well outside it, but I’d love to go back and film more of this beautiful island.
How do you get to Siquijor?
We came from Bohol on the high-speed ferry from Tagbilaran Pier to Larena Pier, run by Apekoptravel and booked through 12Go for €30 for the two of us. It left at 10:00 and was due in at 12:30. Check in an hour before, with your passport. Travel light, too: the fare covers hand luggage only, extra bags cost ₱100 each, and there’s a ₱20 landing fee per person. We left Siquijor on the 7:40 Anika Star to Dumaguete, an hour in a Force 4 beam sea, and flew on via Cebu to Coron. [LINK “Our Coron post” WHEN IT’S LIVE] has that whole day.
Would we stay again?
Yes, both of us.

Coco Grove: your questions answered
For us, yes. It scored 3.81 out of 5 (Great) on TripWorthIt™ and beat what its price normally buys.
We paid about £155 a night for a suite with breakfast in February 2025. Checking back in November 2026, prices are similar, but February is almost sold out already, apart from the odd night. Book early.
Not inside the resort. It’s so peaceful that a drone is probably the last thing other guests want to hear.
Sunlight Air now flies from Cebu to Siquijor. Otherwise, take the fast ferry from Cebu’s Pier 1 via Tagbilaran on Bohol. It takes 3½ to 5 hours, depending on the boat and the sea.
Take the boat to Dumaguete, then fly to Busuanga via Cebu. It took us about nine hours.
